Getting started

4 questions

Horizon helps owners of profitable companies find out what their business is worth, raise that number and keep every path open: grow it, sell it or pass it on. We start with your number, then build the plan. Plan your exit, then maybe never take it.

Majority owners of profitable, privately held companies doing $2M to $100M in revenue. Most are service businesses in software and technology services, professional services, financial services, healthcare and wellness, agencies, and consumer services.

No. Most owners we work with are not selling soon. Knowing your number and what a buyer would pay for gives you options, and the same work makes the business more profitable and easier to run whether you sell or not.

Start with a discovery call with a Horizon Partner. We talk about your business and what you want next. If it looks like a fit, the next step is the Value Baseline.

The Value Baseline

9 questions

The Value Baseline is one day of your time and four weeks of our analysis. You get your number, the moves that raise it, and our call on whether to sell now or build. It is the starting point for every client.

Think of it as a management meeting day. We run the same checks a buyer's team would, across 160+ value markers, including normalized earnings, owner dependence, customer concentration and recurring revenue.

Only with no name attached. We show your business on a confidential basis to reputable buyers and bankers who have closed deals in your space in the last 12 months, and build their honest feedback into your results. Nobody learns it’s you unless you choose to tell them.

The Value Baseline starts at $20,000 per company, with one owner included. Additional owners are quoted on your discovery call. It’s backed by the 10x Guarantee: we find $200,000 in value, or your money back.

Yes. A Value Session is two hours with a Horizon Partner, an operator who has built and sold companies, on your biggest opportunity, then a check-in 30 days later to make sure it moved. It costs $5,000, fully credited toward your Value Baseline if you go on to do one.

You’re ready when the business is profitable, you can share three years of real numbers, and you want the honest answer, even if it isn’t the one you hoped for. You don’t need a plan to sell. Most owners come to us because they want options, and the first step is knowing where they stand.

One data request before Value Day: your financials, ownership, customers and revenue, contracts, team and operations. Send what you have; don’t create anything new. If something takes more than five minutes to find, that’s a finding too.

We find $200,000 in value, or your money back. The guarantee applies to owners who share full financials and complete their Value Day, and you claim it within 30 days of your results. You keep your results either way.

All 160+ value markers scored against the best businesses in your market, walked through 1:1 with your Partner. You also receive a written report and a plan with profit, value and wealth actions in order of impact.

Working together

3 questions

You choose your path. Growth and Exit Partnerships are by invitation, offered after your Value Baseline when we both see a fit. Many owners take their plan and run it themselves.

The Growth Partnership builds the most valuable version of your company with a 1:1 Partner while keeping every option open. The Exit Partnership is for owners preparing to sell, with a deal team that includes an M&A lead from day one plus legal, tax and wealth advisors.

No. We take 0% equity, no board seat and no control. Your company stays 100% yours.

Selling and offers

3 questions

Yes. If you have an offer or are about to go to market, talk to Matt directly. A deal review is complimentary and always confidential.

Yes. We work with owners who took over a family business and owners planning to hand it to the next generation. The work starts the same way: your number, what raises it and a clear path forward.

Buyers pay more for businesses that run without the owner, earn reliable and recurring revenue, and are not dependent on a few customers. Our Ask a Buyer series puts owner questions to people who buy companies.

Trust and confidentiality

3 questions

Yes. Everything you share, including financials and session recordings, is treated as confidential. You can ask us to pause or skip recording any session.

Not from us. Our work is framed as building a stronger, more valuable company, which is exactly what it is. Conversations about value and options stay between you and your Partner.

Horizon is a team of founder-operators, private equity operators and former investment bankers who have sold companies and bought them: five exits as owners, 30+ acquisitions bought and integrated, and $100M+ in deals advised. What makes a business worth buying is what makes it worth owning, and we exist to give owners that view and the tools to act on it. It was co-founded by Krystyn and Matt Harrison, cohosts of the Worth Owning podcast, and is based in Toronto, Ontario. Exit Horizon Inc. operates as Horizon.
